FORTNIGHTLY ROUNDUP

Welcome again to Business Events World, a summary published every two weeks of content posted on The Iceberg. Welcome again to The Iceberg.

No sooner had we put Issue 01 to bed than President Trump signed his executive order preventing refugees and citizens of seven mainly Muslim countries from entering the US.

There was choas at airports. The acting Attorney General questioned legality and was fired. A judge in Seattle suspended the ban. The President fumed on Twitter.

Now in a further ruling which even cites the ban’s effect on knowledge transfer to universities, three federal appeals court judges have refused to reinstate it. Unanimously. It has been a busy two weeks. Around $185 million of business travel bookings were cancelled in the first week alone.

In Business Events World Issue 02 you will find industry reaction to the President’s travel ban all across our news pages. In our featured case study – from Intellectual Capitals – the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce champions the innovation immigration brings in its wake.

But we are not entirely US focussed! We continue our Dubai series with a look at the legacy planning for Expo 2020. And we have a fascinating piece for you about the CSR outcomes of the recent ICCA Congress in Kuching, Sarawak. Scroll down to Opinions and click on my friend the orangutan.

Let us see what the next two weeks will bring.

Robert Coren, Curator of The Iceberg.

In the next issue of Business Events World we will finally be starting our series on Geneva.

The concept of The Iceberg has always been to connect leading industry players and to pool resources we can all use in championing the benefits of face to face communications.

So please feel free to contribute. Anything you have that may be of use to the wider community – news, opinion, case studies, research, publications, education or events – we are very interested to hear about.

Until the next time!

Robert Coren, Curator of The Iceberg.
