As The Iceberg reaches its half birthday – having launched in January 2017 – perhaps it is time to restate the principle behind the unusual metaphor we appropriated.
If you prefer, perhaps it is time to gaze again at the blue sky above The Iceberg.
This platform is presented by the Joint Meetings Industry Council and emerged not only as a vehicle for industry advocacy in general but also specifically to showcase the content of JMIC’s Case Study Program. The idea is that these academically rigorous studies of the outcomes and legacies of business and professional events are the best way to convince those in government – indeed all of those involved in destinations’ economic development – of the sector’s true value. And the JMIC reports coming online do indeed demonstrate that there is a less visible and often ignored nine tenths of berg mass lying hidden below the surface.
So here is a six month video progress report focussing on this cornerstone of The Iceberg‘s content. It comes in the form of an interview with Rod Cameron, JMIC Program Management, recorded with me at IMEX in Frankfurt.
Happy half birthday to us!
Robert Coren, Curator of The Iceberg
Rod Cameron, JMIC Program Management: “This is an industry about generating outcomes… …an infinite range of outcomes that is only limited by the range of different organisers and meetings types that are being brought together to achieve these objectives.”.
